Hot air balloon, a view during snow

What to do in Cappadocia question’s first answer is always hot air balloon however there are other things to do in Cappadocia. This ancient area is a highly famous place all over the world and I am sure it is in “must-see list” for many tourists. This authentic place located in Central Anatolia and its history goes back to Late Bronze Age. It hosted several empries as well as natural events. History and nature will amaze you since these two elements welcomes you in every corner of this region. Yes, Cappadocia is the name of the region not a city and it literally means a land of beautiful horses. There are small towns like Ürgüp, Avanos, Ortahisar, Göreme and so on…

Hot Air Balloon in Cappadocia

Having said that “Hot air balloon” is the first thing to come to mind when we talk about this fairy region, there are many other activities also. Hiking through valleys, horse riding, cultural tours, jeep safari tours, visiting pottery workshops, watching sunset in best spots…

What to See in Nevşehir?

Besides this region was shaped by geographical events, natural disasters, it turned into a magical land through centuries. Life is like this also, right? It is a dialectic process of good and bad.

As well as observing the natural events, you will also witness how  people reacted with their creativeness against destruction. Carved churchsi, houses, cute chimneys, ornamented walls and so on. I was very excited to explore Cappadocia on foot as much as from air. There are many things to see and that’s why I divided into maps to explain easily.

Göreme Open Air Museum

Göreme is a dazzling star in the Cappadocia region and it does justice to its name literally. Through the rocky treeking paths, hidden caves, embedded churches and panoramic view of the place is a must for every Explorer. With the ornametd walls of the carved churches, you will have a trip to 10th-13th century.

Avanos: A Capital of Pottery

Avanos is a place where the ancient handicraft pottery making was the main activity.  There are still many pottery workshops you can visit today. This is the place also to buy souvenirs for a memory from your trip. Avanos is also surrounded with a river called Kızılırmak and longest river in  Turkey.

The reason I put Göreme and Avanos together there is the places you should see between them. Just like Göreme, there is also an open air museum called Zelve. Besides some chuches with religious paintings and ornamentations , there is also an ancint monastery which gos back to ancient times.
